(Delta Resident; Retired Postmaster)
Sharon Lea Smith, age 80, of Delta, peacefully passed away under hospice care at her home on Tuesday morning, March 31, 2026, with her sister Doris Shulters and Dori Poorman by her side all week.
She was born in Toledo, Ohio, on Oct. 16, 1945, to Keith H. Shulters and Freda (McClain) Shulters, and was a graduate of Chesterfield High School. Sharon married Walter Smith, who preceded her in death in 1994.
She dedicated over 25 years of service as a Postmaster with the United States Postal Service before her retirement. Sharon found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved quilting, shopping, and taking pride in tending to her lawn.
One of her favorite pastimes was sitting on her front porch, soaking in the sunshine alongside her beloved Shih Tzus, Tucker and Oscar.
She is survived by her children, Sherri (Terry) Urbanoski, Rhonda (Dave) Urbanoski, Jamie (Sandy) Thrailkill, and Jennifer Panczyszyn; her sisters, Patricia Blanchard, Julie (Larry) Miller, and Doris Shulters; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Walter, Sharon was preceded in death by her life companion, Steve VanPelt, in 2011; her brother, Stephen Shulters; and her sisters, Linda Reckner and Phyllis Smith.
Private interment will be held at Lyons Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barnes Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 5825 State Highway 109 in Delta.
Those wishing to express their sympathy are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 East River Road, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551, in Sharon’s memory. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.barnesfuneralchapel.com.
