Sherry A. Afifi, age 65, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Evergreen Healthcare in Montpelier, Ohio.
Sherry will be remembered for her strong spirit and the deep love she had for her family. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures — traveling, learning about history, and caring for animals.
More than anything, Sherry cherished her family. She treasured every moment spent together, sharing stories, laughter, and memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Sherry was born on Jan. 6, 1961, in Bryan, Ohio, to Walter and Gladys (Hansford) Traxler. She graduated from Four County Career Center and West Unity High School. She married Fetthadine Afifi on June 10, 2014; he preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 2026.
Sherry is survived by her daughter, Bobbie Jo Starnes of Fort Wayne, Indiana; her son, Angelo (Heather) Hornung of Montpelier, Ohio; and her grandchildren: Gavin (Emily) Starnes of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Devin Starnes of Panama City, Florida; MiKayla Hornung of Sebring, Florida; Danica Starnes of Millers Creek, North Carolina; and Mallory Hornung of Montpelier, Ohio. She is also survived by her parents, Walter and Gladys Traxler of Kunkle, Ohio; her sister, Diane (Mike) Prater of Cooney, Ohio; and her brother, Stephen Traxler of Pioneer, Ohio.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Kunkle United Brethren Church, 400 Angola St., Kunkle, Ohio, with Pastor Dan VanArsdalen officiating. Sherry’s services have been entrusted to Krill Funeral Service, 860 West Mulberry St., Bryan, Ohio.
Sherry will be laid to rest at Kunkle Cemetery.
