Shirley E. Zimmerman, age 78 of Wauseon, Ohio began her eternal life in heaven on Thursday afternoon, November 7, 2019 at home with her loving family. She was born on April 7, 1941 to William and Vera Armstrong, the oldest of seven children.

On December 31, 1967 she married Donald L. Zimmerman at Tedrow Mennonite Church. She was a loyal servant of the Lord and a member of Inlet Mennonite Church.

Shirley enjoyed and celebrated life in so many ways. She and Don fostered more than 50 children over the years. A few of her favorite things were her little dogs, making blankets and church bulletins, being a teacher and ‘bus’ driver for Bible School and sending cards to people.

She especially loved spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren. She touched so many lives and was ‘Grandma’ to too many to list.

Surviving are her husband; Donald, daughter, Brenda Zimmerman of Stryker, son, Ronald (Lisa) Zimmerman of Wauseon, daughter, Donna (Douglas) Bailey of Wauseon.  She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Joseph (Teresa), Mackenzie, Jaycob, Dakota, Veronica, Spencer, Emily, Wesley and three great-grandchildren, Colton, Jordan and Sophia Bell; sister, Dorothy (Carl) Lorenz, brother, William (Sandra) Armstrong, sister, Luella (Don) Hostetler, sister, Carol (David) Niese, brother, Clair (Dyann) Armstrong. Preceding her in death were her parents and brother, Albert Armstrong.

Services will be held on Wednesday at 2:30 PM at Inlet Mennonite Church with Pastor Rick Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Wauseon Union Cemetery. Friends may call at Short Funeral Home in Archbold from 4-8 PM on Tuesday.

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to The Gideons or CHP Hospice.
