Steve Porath (1951 – 2024)

Steve A. Porath, 73, of Montpelier passed away at his home on Friday, October 25, 2024.

He was born on August 30, 1951 in Wauseon to Ronald L. and Ruby E. (Betts) Porath. Steve graduated from Hilltop High School in 1969. On January 23, 1971 he married Janette “Jan” L. Smith in West Unity, and she survives.

For many years, Steve worked and then retired from the Montpelier Exempted Village Schools in the transportation department as a bus driver.


Prior to that he worked at Arrow Tu-Line in Bryan. For over 20 years, Steve was employed at the Village of Montpelier in the water treatment plant.

He was a member of the Montpelier Moose and the Sons of the West Unity American Legion. Steve was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, he loved the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers.

He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, listening to music, especially Bob Seager; and above all he loved spending time with his family.


He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jan; son Scott (Tami) Porath of Fremont, Indiana, daughter Wendy (Jason Stahler) Porath of Montpelier, grandchildren Keegan (Lauren) Hitzeman, Tahylin (Wesley) Disbro, Raigan Porath, Kenadee Porath and Jaxon Stahler; great grandchildren Zeke Hitzeman and Gabriel Disbro, and sister Debra Taylor of Traverse City, Michigan. Steve was preceded in death by his parents.

A time to receive friends will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 4-8 P.M. at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier.
