Steven L. Krauss, 77, of Montpelier went to his eternal home Tuesday evening in his home after a year long battle with cancer. Steve spent a lifetime in pain due to a very bad car accident “caused by black ice” when he was a teenager. Steve was born at his country farm home on June 23, 1942 to Theodore I. and Pearl P. (Baker) Krauss in Delta, Ohio.

Steve graduated from Liberty Center High School “Go Tigers” in 1960.  Starting at age seven, Steve farmed with his parents and older brother and worked after school and on the weekends at a home town gas station. He also painted houses and barns with his father until working in several factories before becoming a lifelong factory supervisor.

Steve married Ruth “Midge” A. Sweet on March 3, 1962 at his childhood family church parsonage- Shiloh Christian Union Church in Delta. Steve loved spending time with his wife and children. He enjoyed fishing, playing guitar with friends, displaying his gas engines at gas engine shows with his dad and two brothers, riding on his motorcycle, making muzzle loader guns and making model trucks, tractors, uniquely shaped boxes and many other wooden crafts from various native type trees.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 58 years Midge, three wonderful children Steven Jr. (Mary) Krauss of Kunkle, Ohio, Cheryl (John V.) McGill of Montpelier and Roger (Amy) Krauss of Bryan, seven beautiful grandchildren, nine adorable great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, two brothers Larry (Pat) Krauss of Napoleon and Dennis Krauss of Edgerton and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, six great grandchildren and two nieces.

There will be no visitation or services at this time. A private family graveside will be held at the Shiloh Cemetery in Delta with Pastor Chuck Whitmire to officiate.

Donations may be made to the Donor’s Choice. Condolences may be left for the family at www.thethompsonfuneralhome.com

Steve will be greatly missed by the love of his life Midge, children, grandchildren and friends.    For this reason, you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour you do not expect.  Matthew 24:44.
