Stryker Holds Boys/Girls Varsity Track And Field Awards; Huston Signs Scholarship Letter

STRYKER: May 23, 2014-The Stryker Panther Varsity Boys and Girls Track and Field Teams assembled at Stryker High school in the gymnasium on May 23 for their end of season Track and Field Awards.
Prior to holding the awards presentation, Head Coach Jason Barringer and Asst. Coach Larry Freshour along with parents Jim and Maggie Huston held a signing ceremony for Graduating Senior Christine Huston. Ms. Huston received a full Athletic Scholarship to Indiana Wesleyan for Track and Field in the High Jump. Huston formally signed her scholarship letter, officially accepting Wesleyan’s Scholarship Award.
The afternoon’s Awards kicked off with presentation of certificates and a heartfelt thank you to the members of the Jr. High Track Team for their participation and valuable assistance throughout the season, lending a helping hand in the home meets and making them a success.

For the Boys Varsity Track Team, the following athletes received recognition:

ALL BBC Recognition
The following student received recognition: 2ND TEAM: Alex Spahr (Shot Put). 3RD TEAM: Alex Bost (High Jump), 4 x 200 Relay Team Members Israel Aguilar, Alex Bost, Alex Spahr and Ross Planson and Derek Opdyke (400 Meter).

Coaches Awards
Coaches Award recipients for the 2014 Boys Varsity Track and Field Team were: Derek Opdyke (Running MVP Award), Alex Spahr (Field MVP Award), Alex Bost (Panther Award) and Derek Opdyke received the Team Captain Award.
In Girls Varsity Track and Field, Coach Barringer presented awards for the Girls Varsity Track Team to the following students:


ALL BBC Recognition
Receiving honors from the BBC were: 1ST TEAM: Gabbie Paxton (100 Meter Hurdles) Audra Rupp (400 Meter Run), Paige Speelman (200 Meter Dash), the 4 x 200 Meter Team of Paige Speelman, Audra Rupp, Brittany Breier, and Kari Oberlin, and the 4 x 400 Meter Relay Team with Kari Oberlin, Paige Speelman, Audra Rupp and Brittany Breier. 2ND TEAM: The 4 x 800 Meter Relay Team of Shi’Anna Whitman, Megan Graber, Kari Oberlin, and Hilli Corresilli; Paige Speelman (100 Meter Dash), Gabbie Paxton (300 Meter Hurdles), Audra Rupp (200 Meter Dash), Brittany Breier (Long Jump) and Megan Graber (3200 Meter Run). 3RD TEAM: Brittany Breier (100 Meter Dash) the 4 x 100 Meter Relay Team of Kari Oberlin, Gabbie Paxton, Megan Graber and Shi’Anna Whitman.

BBC Scholar Athletes
In order to be eligible for recognition as a Scholar Athlete, a student must maintain a GPA of 3.25 or higher. The following students were recognized by the Buckeye Border Conference as Scholar Athletes for the 2014 Track and Field Season: Gabrielle Paxton, Kari Oberlin, Christine Huston, Zachary Greutman and Derek Opdyke.
