DIGITAL SAFETY … Stryker Village Council approves the new cybersecurity policy with no objections.

During its May regular meeting, the Stryker Village Council approved a comprehensive cybersecurity policy and received updates on community maintenance enforcement, police training, and upcoming events.
The council passed Resolution #03-2025-1, officially adopting a cybersecurity policy for the Stryker Village Clerk’s Office.
The detailed policy outlines employee responsibilities, data protection protocols, vendor compliance requirements, and consequences for violations.
It requires all staff and contractors to follow strict standards regarding password security, email usage, and system access.
Annual training, regular audits, and network monitoring are also mandated to help protect residents’ personal information and village infrastructure from cyber threats.
Upon suspension of the rules, Council also passed Resolution #05-2025-02, finalizing the levy for the property tax. The county upheld the tax evaluation, which increased over $10,000.
The police department provided its monthly update, given by Chief Steven Mendez, who reported that officers recently completed an eight-hour training on traffic crash investigations.
With the summer season approaching, the chief reminded residents of the strict enforcement of Ordinance 543.06, This requires all grass and weeds to be kept under 8 inches. Violators will receive a seven-day notice before facing citations or abatement.
Additionally, Ordinance 543.02 prohibits the outdoor storage of junk vehicles and other refuse materials. Residents will have ten days to address violations with fines issued daily if left unresolved.
Mayor Joe Beck announced the upcoming ballot coming to Stryker. He encourages its current council members to reapply, and that community members should feel free to run as well. The deadline for applications is August 6, 2025.
The Heritage Parade currently does not have a day set. There is talk of including the parade with the Stryker Fall Fest in the upcoming months, however, if funds and donations are secured, locals might get to experience it much sooner.
Planning is still in the works, with potential fundraising proposed. This is not an event the village plans to make a profit off of; it’s simply intended to add culture and festivities to the community.
The Memorial Day ceremony is set to be held at the Stryker school this year instead of the cemetery, as not enough veterans were signed up for the event. By including the students they hope to give the day the justice it deserves.
Village Administrator, Alan Riegsecker, announced that Big Trash Pick-up Day was a success – costing $500 less than the year before.
He also noted that residents should only use the town compost bin for biodegradable items only; wood chips, leaves, grass, etc. No tree branches of any sort are allowed.
Riegsecker also mentioned that everyone should be careful to not let their grass shavings blow into the streets, as it imposes a dangerous threat to motorcycles and bikes alike. Shavings can also clog up the storm sewers.
