Swanton Library Announces Upcoming Events For All Ages

Tuesdays, August 16, 23, 30 at 10:30 am – Guest Readers for Storytime. Missing storytime this month? Bring your children to the library’s Children’s Area Tuesday mornings to enjoy books read by volunteers, including former library director Linda Slaninka, library volunteer Roseann Taylor, and others.

Thursday, August 11 at 7:00 pm – Adult book discussion led by Marty Kaback. This month’s topic is the memoir When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi.

Monday, August 15 at 7:00 pm – Swanton Public Library Board of Trustees regular monthly meeting. Open to the public.

Thursday, August 18 from 10:00 am to noon – Medicare, Social Security, and Retirement Assistance. Val Edwards of the Fulton County Senior Center will work with individuals with questions pertaining to the above. Appointments are required – to schedule yours, contact FCSC at 419-337-9299.


Thursday, August 18 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm – Handmade Cards. Our series of Cardmaking Classes, led by Anna Geis, continues; the fee is $5 for 3 cards. Students will make cards with a theme of “At the Fair!” Children 8 and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Registration is required. Please call to register or register online.

Friday, August 19 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm – Teens’ and Children’s Flea Market. Kids are invited to bring their sell-able items to Swanton Public Library for the annual Flea Market on the lawn. No pets allowed and vendors must provide their own change and set-up. Call 419-826-2760 or visit our website for more information.

Mondays, August 22 and 29 from 10:15 am to 11:45 am – Beginning Yoga. This class is slightly more advanced, offering students an opportunity to expand their skill level. Class fee is $10.00 per session with multi-session tickets available. Students are asked to bring a yoga mat and towel and to wear comfortable clothing.


Wednesday, August 24 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm – Anime Club for grades 6-12. Join us to watch three episodes of anime(s) chosen by the attendees. Food and drinks will also be provided. Participants are welcome to come in cosplay, anime or otherwise. Free!

Wednesday, August 24 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm – Dementia Awareness. Join us as Chris Cremean of Swanton Healthcare presents “Becoming a Dementia-Friendly Community.” Chris will share tips and best practices for working and living with those dealing with this disease. Please call to register for this free program or register online.

Thursday, August 25 from 10:15 am to 11:45 am – Intro to Yoga. Join us for a series of yoga classes taught by Aimee Strohbeck. Please bring a yoga mat and towel and wear comfortable clothing for easy movement. No experience necessary. Class fee is by donation with proceeds benefiting the library.

Thursday, August 25 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm – Chair Yoga. This class involves the same poses done in other yoga classes, but modified to make them gentler while sitting or sometimes standing with a chair for balance and support. Class fee is $5. No yoga mat is required for this class.


Thursday, August 25 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm – Preventing Diabetes. Join us for a presentation by Susan Dittes, manager of the diabetes education department at FCHC. Ms. Dittes will provide information and suggestions for managing and controlling pre-diabetes. This free program is open to all. Please call to register, register online, or stop at the desk.
