The Three Arts Club welcomed three new members at their September meeting. From left: Mel Mercer, Melinda Horton, and Connie Brandeberry.

After a summer break the Three Arts Club met on September 19 at Bobbie Clark’s to start a new year. Three new members joined the club: Mel Mercer, Melinda Horton, and Connie Brandeberry.

Guest speakers were Colleen Bell and Sydni Rivera, seniors at Hilltop High School. Last June as Juniors they attended Buckeye Girl’s State held at Mt. Union University.

They were delegates sponsored by the club and the West Unity American Auxiliary. They spoke of the great experiences they had. Colleen was appointed city engineer and Sydni was elected as county coroner. They learned a lot about government and met girls from all over the state of which some have become lifelong friends. They recommend that all Junior girls apply to be a delegate.

President Mel Burrowes then called the meeting to order. Eighteen members answered the roll call “What fun things did you do this summer.” Thank yous were read from Lauren Garrett and Haleigh Westfall for receiving the Three Arts Club Scholarship in the amount of $500 each. Also, a thank you was read from Hilltop High School for donating towards the Academic Banquet held last May.

It was decided to start our own facebook page. Fundraiser ideas were discussed. It was voted to have an election-day supper on November 8. More details would be available at the next meeting.

The meeting was then adjourned and delicious refreshments were served by co-hostesses Cathie Batt and Gayle Hilkert.
