WAUSEON (April 1, 2025) – A dominant offensive performance powered the Edgerton Bulldogs to a convincing 14-2 victory over the Wauseon Lady Indians in non-league softball action on Tuesday evening.
The Bulldogs set the tone early, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a leadoff home run by Casey Everetts.
After a scoreless bottom half from Wauseon, Edgerton broke the game open in the second inning, plating six runs to seize control.
The scoring barrage began with a two-run double from Everetts, followed by a sacrifice fly by Ava Swank, which plated Morgan Cape.
Corinne Cape added an RBI double, and Cara Schroeder tacked on an RBI single. Ava Giesige finished the scoring for the inning with an RBI while grounding out, helping extend the Bulldogs lead to 7-0.
Edgerton’s offensive pressure continued into the third inning as Corinne Cape drove in a two-run RBI double, plating Swank and Everetts. Olivia Wallace followed with a towering two-run homer to center field, driving in Corinne Cape to make it 11-0.
Meanwhile, Corinne Cape was dominant in the circle for the Bulldogs, striking out multiple Wauseon batters while limiting their offense to minimal chances.
Wauseon’s best opportunity early on came in the bottom of the third, when Bella. McGuire doubled to center field and Aubrianna Everly singled to advance a runner to third, but the Lady Indians were unable to push a run across.
Edgerton continued to apply pressure in the fourth and fifth innings, adding three more runs, highlighted by an RBI single from Giesige that plated Schroeder. By the top of the fifth, the Bulldogs had built an insurmountable 14-0 advantage.
Wauseon managed to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth when McGuire doubled, and Everly followed with a deep two-run homer to left field. However, it was not enough to extend the game, as Edgerton closed out the mercy-rule victory.
Corinne Cape earned the win for Edgerton, going the distance and shutting down Wauseon’s bats for most of the contest.
Breah Teal and Shelbi Leija combined efforts in the circle for Wauseon but struggled to contain Edgerton’s potent lineup.
