FAYETTE (October 2, 2023) – There is a new math out that originates in Edgerton, Ohio. 2×6=30=3. Confusing as much as AP Calculus?
That means in story problem form, that the twosome of 6-footers Corrine Cape and Alivia Farnham accounted for 30 of Edgerton’s 75 points in a three-set win over Fayette, 25-19, 25-12, 25-12.
“It’s nice,” Edgerton coach Krista Pahl said of having the twin towers on her side. “It’s very nice, because I have them opposite, I know I always have one of them in front.”
“Actually, a lot of our girls are tall but having our two 6-footers is really nice. It makes things a lot easier.”
Fayette jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first set as Kenadie Ramay and Demi Storrs recorded kills and Kelsie Storrs nailed an ace. Kayla Sliwinski’s cross court blast to the back corner kept the Eagles up 10-6.
That’s when Edgerton’s twin towers took over. Cape and Farnham accounted for seven kills and a pair of aces in a 14-2 burst that brought the Bulldogs from four down to a 20-12 advantage.
Zoie Brown’s shot from the middle and back-to-back aces by Hannah Towns Hall got Fayette back to 22-18 but Farnham’s dunk on an overpass then Kaytlynn TImbrook’s left to right attack ended the set.
The second set also had a big Edgerton scoring run, this one 17-3 to open the game. Farnham’s slam back opened the scoring.
Casey Everetts and Ella Miler stuck aces, then Cape and Farnham each scored at the net before Cape nailed two more from the middle in between three Farnham aces.
Hall and Brown each had a couple of scoring shots for Fayette, but the Bulldogs matched them point for point the rest of the way.
Again, in the third Cape and Farnham knocked down two more bullets each to open a 10-5 margin, and the Bulldogs added on with Timbrook helping add the finishing touches by scoring on the serve twice late before Kennedy Stuut put the match away from the left side.
With the Division IV tournament draw looming, Pahl explained the importance of the match. “Right now, we’re tired because we have played nine games in a little more than two weeks,” Pahl said.
“It’s been crazy, and we have another match tomorrow. But I always tell them that these are the kind of games you need to have.”
“Fayette never gave up, they scrapped but these are the games that we need to run some extra things to prepare for the post season.”
