Verdie Phillips, formerly of Fayette and West Unity, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the age of 89. She passed peacefully at the Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier, OH, where she has resided since October of 2016.
For fourteen years prior to the nursing home, Verdie had resided at the home of her daughter, Diana Judy, in West Unity.
Verdie was born in Logan, WV, on January 25, 1928, the daughter of Zora and Ida Bell (Elliott) Finley . She and her husband, Sherwood, moved to Fayette in 1961, and she gained employment soon after at the former Fayette Tubular Products, where she worked for 30 years before retirement. Verdie was a longtime member of the former Fayette Bible Church and will now be in the peaceful hands of our Lord.
Preceding Verdie in death were her husband, Sherwood; a daughter, Brenda Judy; and a grandson, Michael (Woody) Henderson.
She is survived by her daughter, Diana (Randall) Judy of West Unity; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Allen) Kunesh of Edgerton, OH, Jacob (Chris) Judy of West Unity, Amanda Leidy of West Unity, Jessica (Jason) Taylor of Hillsdale, MI, Krista Judy of Waldron, MI, and Gary “Butch” Parry of Wauseon, OH; and eight wonderful great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Verdie will be Tuesday, June 13, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette with Pastor Darren Lemmon officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service. A private family graveside will follow in the Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette.
