Violet Grant (1929 – 2017)

Violet L. Grant, 87 years, of Mark Center, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Genesis Healthcare-Bryan Center, Bryan, Ohio.

Violet was born November 1, 1929, in Defiance, Ohio, the daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Wheeler) Ankney.

She married Darl Richard Grant on April 15, 1953 in Angola, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on August 14, 1987.

Violet was a machine operator for the former 50 Corp for many years.  She was also the former owner of The Glass Hat and Vi’s Place, in LaFerria, Texas.  Violet enjoyed horses, going to the dog races and gambling upon occasion.


Surviving are her four children, Gloria Volkert of Mark Center, Ronald (Janie) Grant of Defiance, Francis (Donna) Grant of Continental, Ohio and Arthur (Sue) Corwin of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles, also known as “Jim” (Marilyn) Ankney of Defiance, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Darl; one son, Roger Corwin; four brothers, Richard, Donald, Gary and Bill Ankney; one sister, Mildred Higgins.

Memorial services for Violet L. Grant will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2017 in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home-Sherwood Chapel, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood with Pastor Jeff Miller officiating.  Interment will follow in Sherwood Cemetery.  Relatives and friends will be received two hours prior to the service on Thursday in the funeral home, beginning at 12 Noon.


Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to Community Health Professionals Hospice, 1315 Portland Street, Bryan, Ohio, 43506, or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be sent to the family or the online guest book may be signed at www.oberlinturnbull.com
