<p>Virginia Mae Scherer, age 93, of Manistique, passed away peacefully on Jan. 7, 2026, at Woodland Assisted Living, surrounded by the love of her family.</p>
<p>Virginia was born on May 1, 1932, in West Hope, Ohio, and spent the greater part of her life in <a href=”https://thevillagereporter.com/ohsaa-state-wrestling-championships-deltas-barnes-captures-division-iii-state-title-three-other-area-grapplers-finish-as-state-runner-up/”>Delta</a> and <a href=”https://thevillagereporter.com/free-underground-railroad-program-to-be-held-at-museum-of-fulton-county/”>Wauseon</a>, Ohio, before moving to the Manistique area in 2006.</p>
<p>She was the daughter of Wilbur Booth and Mary (Beavers) Booth. She attended school in Deshler, Ohio, completing the 12th grade.</p>
<p>On Feb. 28, 1953, Virginia was united in marriage to Wayne Scherer in <a href=”https://thevillagereporter.com/diane-gwinn-myles-1952-2026/”>Napoleon, Ohio</a>. Their marriage was one of deep devotion and love until Wayne’s passing on Aug. 5, 2016.</p>
<p>Virginia dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker, finding great joy in caring for her home and loved ones. She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church of Manistique and remained active in church life for many years.</p>
<p>Virginia had many interests and hobbies that reflected her warm and creative spirit. She was an avid quilter, an excellent baker, and was known as a great pie baker.</p>
<p>She was a member of the Quilters Club at Zion Lutheran Church, enjoyed polka dancing in her younger years, and loved camping and wildlife. She was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Delta during her earlier years.</p>
<p>She is survived by her two sons, Joseph (Jackie) Scherer of Shingleton, Michigan, and Gary (Michelle) Scherer of Bacliff, Texas; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.</p>
<p>Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne Scherer; and her sister, Jane Pasztor.<br />
Virginia will be laid to rest at Winameg (Aetna) Cemetery in Delta, Ohio, next to her husband, Wayne, at 11 a.m. March 28, 2026.</p>
<p>Memorial contributions may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church.Fausett Family Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.</p>
