Wauseon Board Of Education Accepts Donations As Schools Prepare For End Of Year

With the bills, financial reports, investments, and modifications and supplemental modifications to the FY14 Permanent Appropriations and Certificate of Estimated Resources all being approved as presented at the start of the Wauseon Board of Education’s May 19 meeting, the Board moved on to accept, with gratitude, several donations from the community to the John Spencer Tiffany Scholarship Fund, established in memory of John Tiffany, who had served the Wauseon School District and the district’s students for several years. A total of $2300 in donations was accepted by the board with donations being made by Dolores Wise, Virgil Tiffany, Roesmarie Myrdal, Melissa and Todd Calahan, Mary Jane Schrock, Michell and Catrina Fields, Connie Lynch, James and Deanna Spiess, Rob and Ann Oberski, Curt and Tina Jones, James and Joni Kerr, Todd and Lori Myers, Lance and June Demland, Gina and George Wood, Curt and Nancy Cooley, Lucas and Tamara Ankney, Greg and Lynn Boyers, Margaret Croninger, D.M. and M.A. Harman, Wesley Moll, Arnold and Shirley Bunke, Vaughn and Pamela, Ann and James Beck, Blair and Debra Tiffany, Susan Shore, Wm and Virginian Schmidlin, Keith and Michelle Leatherman, Delle and Patricia Ferreira, Neil and Marie Weber, Philip and Christine Schnaffner, Deb Oswald, Marily Miller, Nancy Clingaman, EJ Penvose, Beverly Meridew, the Downtown Merchants Association, Janet Shanklin, Maguerite Iverson, the Ottawa Place Condo Association, Carmen Tiffany, Mary Rupp, Susan Gearhart, Eileen and Warren Pratt, Gary and Carol Dregney, Harper and Martha Peck, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Church. Other donations accepted with gratitude by the board included $500 from Brenda Thierry to the Micheal Thierry Scholarship Fund, $2340.04 from the Wauseon Athletic Boosters to the WHS Baseball program for the purchase of uniforms, and $250 from Ron Hodges to the WHS Speech Team. Personnel matters were also approved during the meeting. 3 year administrative contracts, effective August 1, 2014 through July 31, 2017 were approved for Troy Armstrong, Jim Figy, and Brittani Gerken. A 1 year administrative contract, effective August 1, 2014 through July 31, 2015 was also approved for Angela Hill. A 1 year limited supplemental contract to Brian Pike for Agricultural Extended Time for the month of June 2014, not to exceed 15 days, using funds from the FY14 Vocational Agricultural Funding Allocation, was also approved pending receipt of a clean BCI/FBI background check and proper licensure. Also pending the standard receipt of a clean BCI/FBI background checks are 1 year limited certificated contracts for Kyle Storrer, 6th Grade Reading/Language Arts; Shawn Moore, 6th Grade Science/Social Studies; and Brittany Schroeder, 8th Grade Science. All are for the 2014-15 school year. The reassignment of Anna Geis from a WPS Teacher’s Aide to a WPS Preschool Aide, effective June 6 was also approved. Additionally the Board accepted the resignations for the purpose of retirement from Amy Boyers, WES Intervention Specialist, and Joyce Oyer, WES 4th Grade Teacher. Boyers retirement will go into effect at the close of the 2013-14 school year and Oyer’s on July 1, 2014. Additionally, the Board approved the resolution renewing Wauseon School Districts membership with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) and ratified the tentative memorandum agreement between OAPSE Local #533 and the Wauseon Exempted Village Board of Education for the 2014-15 school year wage modifications, effective for the 2014-15 contract year ending June 30, 2015. Moving on to Principal Reports, the Board heard of recently held activities’ successes with principals noting such activities as Right to Read Week, Prom, Student Led Conferences, the blood drive, and Ohio Fit Walk along with many more. Principals also noted that PAARC testing and OAA testing has wrapped up for the year. However, the school year is not quite finished yet and the following dates may want to be noted by parents and students: May 29 – OAA Incentive Day May 30 – 3rd and 4th Grade Awards May 30 – Exams June 2 – Kindergarten Awards; 3rd Grade Awards; 5th Grade Awards June 2-3 – Exams The next meeting of the Wauseon Board of Education will be held on June 12th at 12:00 PM in the board office.
