DSC_0985 WEB(WAUSEON, OH) — The Fulton County Economic Development Corporation in conjunction with Job1USA, the Fulton County Ohio Means Jobs office and Wauseon High School conducted a “Senior Day” career fair for the 2015 Seniors of Wauseon High School Friday, April 17th, 2015. The event was held at the Crossroads Evangelical Church in Wauseon.

The entire day was planned as part of the Financial Literacy Curriculum through the Government and English classes at Wauseon High School. Students rotated through three different breakout sessions in the morning. A soft skills class put on by Julia Garcia of Job1USA & Chair of the FCEDC Workforce Development & Education Team. The class consisted of the importance of a handshake, eye contact, smile and head nod & focuses on other interpersonal skills to best prepare the students for the workplace. It also teaches the fundamentals of how to properly dress and compose oneself during an interview. Julia also covered the importance of putting down the cell phone; as well as, saying no to drugs & encouraged the students to enjoy every opportunity they have to work, while putting in the best effort possible at whatever they do.

In addition, students heard a presentation from Mrs. Patsy Miller from BAHEC, on Healthy Living. Students also participated the Real World Real Money simulation organized and presented by Jill Stechschulte of the Fulton County Ohio State Extension office. Twenty four area adult volunteers helped with this simulation.

Later in the day, Seniors heard from Judge Jeff Robinson who answered legal questions that the Seniors had in order to best prepare them for adulthood. These questions ranged from basic legal questions about drugs & alcohol related offenses, to loans and cosigning scenarios. The students were very attentive and learned a great deal about repercussions of different offenses.

Also, presentations were provided by Molly Pfund & Cara Leininger of the Fulton County Ohio Means Jobs office. As the Youth Coordinator & Workforce Director (respectively), Molly & Cara shared with the Seniors the “dos & don’ts” of resume writing, applying for jobs, interviews and other tips for finding & maintaining employment.

Early afternoon was a chance for several of the area businesses to introduce themselves and provide information to the seniors as to what jobs and/or career opportunities that they have to offer. Represented on Friday were: North Star BlueScope Steel, Sauder Woodworking, Swanton Welding, TRW of Fayette, Wauseon Machine, Worthington Industries, Archbold Container, Farmers & Merchants State Bank, First Federal Bank, GB Manufacturing, Job1USA, Product Movers, Haas Door, Menards Distribution Center, & CK Technologies.

Thank you to all who participated and volunteered their time to make this a successful day!
