(March 30th, 2015) – ROSSFORD: The Indians of Wauseon started their season off right, defeating Rossford. Their efforts in the road contest were aided by 9 hits and just 1 error.
In the end, that was enough to secure the 11-3 victory over the Bulldogs.
After a slow start by both teams in the first inning, Wauseon found their offense in the top of the second. They scored 2 runs before giving Rossford a chance to rebut. The Bulldog boys were unable to do so, as neither squad was able to add more to their totals until the fourth inning. It was then that the Indians put up another run, giving themselves a 3-0 lead going into the game’s fifth inning of play.
Rossford made their move in the bottom of that inning, getting themselves back into the contest. A 2 run display put them behind their guests from the North Western Ohio Athletic League by just a single score. Wauseon would pull well out of their reach in the sixth, however. They tacked on another 7 runs to their score, earning a 10-2 edge heading into the final inning. In that last frame, each team would bring home another run, which was good enough to allow the Indian boys to win by 8 runs.
Pitcher Nate Suntken was awarded the win for Wauseon. Staying on the mound for 4.1 innings, the senior allowed just 1 earned run on 3 hits. He also struck out 4 Bulldog batters. Coming in to relieve Suntken was Brady Kinnersley. Finishing up the remaining 2.2 innings, Kinnersley also gave up just 1 earned run, but off of 4 hits. He struck out 3 batters as well.
Kinnersley had a strong evening in the batters box in addition to his exploits on the mound. Connecting on 2 of his 4 appearances at the plate, he hit for a single and a double, earning 2 RBIs in the process. Josh Whitcomb also drove in a pair of runs against the Rossford defense, going 1 for 4 from the plate with a 2 RBI single.
