DEFIANCE – The Division II Sectionals at Defiance took a heavy toll on the Wauseon Lady Indians on October 3 and 5, but the Tribe will still be represented at the D-II Bowling Green Districts on October 9.

The doubles team of Ellie Hayati and Sally Frank took second place at the D-II Sectionals to advance to BGSU. Hayati and Frank won their opener over Wittler and Steel of Bryan by scores of 6-0 and 6-1. In the second round, Hayati and Frank found themselves facing off against the tandem of Schmiedebusch and Kahle of Ottawa Glandorf, a match won by the Lady Indians in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-0. The team of Berry and Healey from Ottawa Hills finally put a stop to Hayati and Frank in the championship match, rallying to take the championship 6-7 (4-7), 7-5 and 6-2. Both teams will advance to the BGSU Districts.

The doubles team of Ashlyn Boyers and Cherese Bussing took a different route, but were also bumped by Ottawa Hills. They took their opener against Hageman and Schndeeg of Ottawa Glandorf, 6-3 and 6-2, then triumphed over the Toledo Christian tandem of Scherreik and Koziarski, pitching a straight set shutout of 6-0 and 6-0. In the championship semifinals though they had to get past Berry and Healey, but fell 2-6 and 0-6.

In singles play, Autumn Dominique won her opening match over Haselman of Ottawa Glandorf, 6-0 and 6-0, but was then bounced by Shannon of Defiance, 1-6 and 2-6.

Vicky Kahrs fell in her opening match to Fischer of Toledo Christian, 2-6 and 1-6, and Mackenzie Eberly was also ousted in her opening match, falling in straight sets to Braun of Napoleon, 1-6 and 0-6.
