The West Unity Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting celebration on Saturday evening, December 6, 2025, drawing families and community members downtown for an evening of holiday tradition, music, and recognition.

The chamber offered free cookies and hot chocolate to those in attendance, and fan-favorite “whoopie pies” were donated by the Millcreek District Deli.

Two special awards were presented during the event. The Business of the Year award was given to Klinger Pharmacy, which was recognized for bringing “strong family values and many smiles since opening” to the village.

Fiscal Officer Sarah Higdon noted that “with their commitment to go above and beyond, Aaron (Dunlap) and his staff are not just your typical pharmacy, they are your friends and neighbors in this community.”

The Citizen of the Year award was presented to Tim Belding for his decades of service to the community. “Today we gather to honor someone whose name has become synonymous with service, dedication, and community spirit here in West Unity,” the chamber shared during the announcement.

Belding began his community career in 1986 and has served as a member of the EMS, Brady Township Fire Department, held leadership roles as president and vice president of the Williams County Firemen’s Association, and remains active with the Williams County Fair Board.

He has also served eight years on the West Unity Village Council, including six years with the Chamber of Commerce.

Known as a regular competitor in the annual chili cook-off, Belding was described as “more than just a good recipe – he is someone who consistently shows up, brings people together and makes our tradition richer.”

As part of the honor, Belding was also given the responsibility of lighting the community Christmas tree.

Children were also able to visit with Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and the Grinch following the tree lighting ceremony, where they received stockings filled with goodies. Live music was provided throughout the evening by a local church band as well.
