West Unity Branch Library Summer Reading programs with the theme “Fizz, Boom, Read” will begin on Tuesday, June 3 and finish on Tuesday, July 22. Children in the community are invited to come and share in the stories, fun activities, and learning experiences that are a part of summer reading. Testing shows that kids who read for fun in the summer do better and forget less when they go back to school. The summer months offer great opportunities for families to help improve reading and writing by attending summer programs at the library.

West Unity Branch Library will feature an Opening Day Party in celebration of summer reading on Tuesday, June 3rd at 1:00 pm. Take part in the fun and possibly win a door prize!

Designated Tuesdays will be filled with excitement! Meet Mr. Leu, the library’s favorite science guru on June 10th. Get ready to learn on June 17th with Science Central, who will be bringing a program from Fort Wayne. “Mrs. Smith and Fun with Science” will be held on July 1st. “What’s the Weather?” is scheduled for July 8th. Tuesday events will all begin at 1:00 pm and will have door prizes

On Wednesdays there will be afternoon matinees with free popcorn beginning June 4, at 1:00 pm.

Themed programs on Thursdays will start on June 5 with “Now We’re Cooking!” On June 12 attend “What’s Out There?” and take part in interesting outer space activities. “Splish! Splash! Fun with Water” will be held on June 19. For the month of July, “Chemistry in the Kitchen” will take place on the 3rd. All themed programs will begin at 1:00 pm.

Special guest speaker Chris Vickers, Weatherman Extraordinaire, from Channel 11 news, will be visiting the library on Thursday, July 10. He will hold an informational program at 11:30 am that all can enjoy. Door prizes will also be awarded to a few lucky winners!

The Summer Reading Ending Party will take place on July 22, at 1:00 pm. Come get your picture taken with Johnny, the TinCaps mascot, and enjoy an afternoon of fun and games.

Dates and times for a program on forensic science, and a visit from EV Motorsports, who will be bringing along an experimental car for your enjoyment, are to be announced. Please look for updates at the West Unity Library or on the Williams County Public Library website mywcpl.org.

Throughout the summer reading months, a prize will be awarded to children who bring back at least one book they have read.

Something special this year will be the addition of the program, “What Does Larry See?” Did you know that Larry the Library Lion has super sight and can see objects much closer than is possible for the human eye? Now you have a chance to figure out what objects Larry is looking at! With this guessing game, close-up pictures will be taken of an object, and kids are invited to guess what the object is. The answers will be posted the following week. Every week there will be a winner of the game.

West Unity Library is located at 109 S. High Street. For more information about summer reading programs, contact Ruth Meyer at 419-924-5237.
