The West Unity Village Council held its regular meeting on May 8 at 7:30 p.m., with all members present except Shawn Blaisdell. The meeting opened with a prayer and then followed with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Among the first readings was Resolution 5-2025-4, requesting the Williams County Auditor to certify the current tax valuation and estimated revenue for a 1.00 mill renewal levy.

This tax, dedicated to municipal park purposes, would be levied for five years. This proposed tax would start in 2025 but is to be collected at the beginning of 2026. If approved, the measure will appear on the November 4, 2025, ballot and apply to the entire West Unity subdivision.

Council also held first readings for two ordinances proposing adjustments to the utility rates. Ordinance 2025-6 would update water rates, maintaining the current base charge of $10.00 plus $5.20 per 1,000 gallons.

Ordinance 2025-7 outlines the village’s sewer rates, which remain at $4.11 per 1,000 gallons for residents.

Despite the changed ordinances, Mayor Don Leu emphasizes that no rate increases are being implemented at this time. These actions serve as procedural renewals.

Administrator Joshua Fritsch provided several updates, including the following: the softener rebuild was completed at the water facility, a new impeller was ordered and is set to arrive on May 14, and the sidewalk work on South Main is progressing steadily, with crews moving to West Jackson Street next.

Fritsch also noted that the South Main Street water line project is near completion, with landscaping work wrapping up this week.

The meeting concluded at 7:57 p.m., with the next regular session scheduled for Thursday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m.
