William D. “Bill” Cartledge, age 90, of Liberty Center, passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at Foundation Park Alzheimer Care Center, Toledo. Bill was born in Cameron, OK., on October 29, 1929, to the late William and Hazel (Baker) Cartledge.

He lived in Cameron, OK. until 12 years of age, when his family moved to Allen Park, Michigan.  In 1948, Bill proudly joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served in the Korean War.

Bill was a member of the “The Chosen Few”, a survivor of the Chosin Reservoir Campaign and a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received in service to his country. He was Honorably Discharged in 1952.

Bill met and married Catherine Blair of Suffolk, Virginia on April 18, 1952. After his discharge from the Marines, Bill and his wife moved to Dearborn Heights, Michigan, where they made their home for 15 years.

In 1967, they moved to Liberty Center where he became an active member of the community and served as president of the village council.  He was also active as a Scout Master of the Liberty Center Boy Scout Troop and served as the District Commissioner of the Boy Scout Council.

Bill has worked as a manager for Kroger and an area manager for the Nestle Corporation, a position from which he retired after 23 years.  He opened his own business, A & A Inventory Service in 1972; a business that continues to this day. He was a member of Shiloh Christian Union Church in Delta, Liberty Center VFW, American Legion and the Marines Corps League.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 68 years, Catherine; sons, Daniel (Yue-Yue) Cartledge; Christopher (Cindy) Cartledge; grandchildren, Kathryn (David) Becksvoort; Thomas Cartledge; Daniel (Jennifer) Cartledge ; great grandchildren, Jack Becksvoort; Clara Becksvoort; Louise Becksvoort, Cecelia Ann Becksvoort and Jason Cartledge.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 still born sons; brother, Don; sisters, Sherry and Peggy.

Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, services will be private with no public visitation or public services and burial will be private at Young Cemetery in Liberty Center with Military Honors.

Arrangements have been entrusted with Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St. Hwy. 109 in Delta. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Shiloh Christian Union Church, 2100 Co. Rd. 5, Delta, Ohio 43515 in Bill’s memory.
