The Williams County Commissioners met regularly last week on Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday started out around 9 a.m., with Commissioners Bart Westfall and Lew Hilkert present.

Four resolutions were then approved, as were the award of the 2024 asphalt emulsion bid, a tax exemption certificate, and two right of way permits for Frontier Communications for service drops.

The minutes from their February 15, 2024 session were then approved, as were the bills as presented.

At 9:30 a.m., they met with Williams County EMA Director Apryl McClaine, to go over the recent progress on two grants.

One grant, an EMPG grant, will go towards paying 50% of office costs for the year, and the other grant is a HMEP grant for Bryan hazmat through LEPC.

Dr. Robert Sharrock came in before the commissioners entered executive session at 10 a.m.

Thursday began earlier, with 8:30 seeing the approval of a memorandum of understanding between them and law enforcement, as well as discussion on the renewal of their levy this year.

The commissioners thanked Katie Zartman and Rachael Sostoi for coming in. The commissioners then welcomed Williams County Health Commissioner Jim Watkins, who came in to introduce Oscar Hernandez, who will be filling his position upon his retirement.

Hernandez is happy to be working locally again after spending some time working for corporate Meijer and looks forward to the challenges he will face with his new position.

The general session began nearer to 9:30, where two resolutions, credit card report through February 18, 2024, the minutes from the February 20, 2024 meeting, and the bills as presented were approved before the commissioners entered into executive session.

Minutes, recordings, and agendas for any upcoming meetings may be found at the Williams County Commissioners website.

This week’s resolutions are as follows: 24-0097: supplemental appropriations; 24-0098: an equitable sharing agreement and certification; 24-0099: purchase of easement; 24-0100: MVPO contract specifications; 24-0101: supplemental appropriations; 24-0102: MOU between prosecutor’s office, JFS, and various law enforcement agencies.
