2022 Johnny Appleseed Set For October 1 & 2 At AuGlaize Village

September 21, 2022No Comments3 Mins Read

As fall arrives this is the last chance to revive all of your senses, to create a mental picture that will carry you through the winter.  In addition to our regular AuGlaize Village activities, we’ll also be making apple cider, apple butter, sorghum molasses, kettle corn, sawing timber into boards and live music and a magic show! “All A Board!” with the Auglaize Village Railroad for a ride around the Village pulled by a two-cylinder Fairbanks Morse 40B Railcar.

Enjoy watching demonstrators make Sorghum Molasses, Apple Butter, and Apple Cider! Watch out though they may put you to work!  All are available to take home with a suggested donation.

The very front of the Village, to the south, houses our Farm Exhibits, the Diehl Brewery’s Corliss Engine, and the model railroad museum.

Make sure you pick up some food at the Red Barn Concession stand or homemade ice cream at the Ice Cream Shop in the Red Barn.

Enjoy your ice cream while watching the broom maker make a broom. He might even let you attempt a ride on one around the Village. I’m told that if you can make that enchanting ride he will give you the broom.

Catch a performance by Johnny Appleseed. He will be hanging out back by the Kinner Log Home.Show times are posted at his tent.

Now’s the time to keep touring and walk off all that good food!  You may have already visited the front of the Village:  the Sherry Schoolhouse, Doc Cameron’s Office, the Mark Center Post Office, the Minsel Barbershop, and the Ayersville Telephone Office. Did you pick up a souvenir at the General Store?

The back of the Village can’t be missed! To the far south end we have two gems. These two structures were built during the Great Depression to house CCC workers.

They later housed POW’s (mostly German) in the area.  They have been moved to the Village and house our Military collection and our Natural Science collection.

Experience the sawing of timber into boards at the saw mill and visit the Hale Logging Shanty, and the two-story Kinner Log Home.

Throughout the weekend Spittin’ Image will have performances on Saturday Noon – 1 pm then again from 5 pm – 6 pm; if you missed them on Saturday their last performance will be at Noon – 1 pm on Sunday.

Don’t miss John Dudley’s Magic Show on Saturday at 4 pm

Bring your Family for some awesome fun, entertainment, and of course a little education of the “Old Ways”!

Saturday 9am – 7pm; Sunday 10am – 5pm

Admission: $5.  Kids 12 and under free with an adult.  Members are free.

Located at: 12296 Krouse Road, Defiance OH 43512
