quilt_show2 WEBArchbold, OH – Recognized as one of the top quilting events in the Midwest, the 40th Annual Quilt Show at Sauder Village is again expected to draw quilters from across the country to Sauder Village from April 26 through May 1. This annual event is a spectacular celebration of this traditional craft featuring hundreds of quilts, unique demonstrations, special exhibits, shopping, workshops and more!

For six days starting Tuesday, April 26 through Sunday, May 1, hundreds of quilters will be sharing their talents as both traditional and modern interpretations of quilts are on display in Founders Hall. Each year the show is a new experience since once a quilt has been exhibited it cannot be re-entered into the Sauder Village Show. With categories ranging from pieced, appliqué and mixed technique to art, masters, baby and miniatures – guests are sure to enjoy browsing the variety of quilts this annual event has to offer.

“Our six-day Quilt Show celebrates the rich tradition of quilting while showcasing the fine craftsmanship of quilters from throughout the region,” shared Kim Krieger, Media Relations. “This year’s event also includes a Ruby Red Celebration exhibit and a special display of “Dare to Dance” Art Quilts”

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Sauder Village Quilt Show, the “Ruby Red Celebration” exhibit will feature a collection of red and white quilts. The crisp contrast of red and white creates striking visual effects in both simple and intricate designs. Examples of antique and recent work; pieced, appliquéd and embroidered; wall quilts and bed quilts will all be featured in this exhibit to show the rich diversity of this simply elegant color combination. Another highlight of the 2016 Quilt Show is the display of “Dare to Dance” art quilts. This innovative, exciting collection of art quilts reflects individual expressions of dance and joy. Artists were challenged to create an 18 x 30 inch quilt that reflected the theme, “Dare to Dance: An Artist’s Interpretation of Joy”. Each created their own personal version that told their own unique story and the exhibit is sure to be a breath-taking addition to the show this year.

Other highlights of the popular week include live piano music, quilting demonstrations, and the “What the Hex” Quilt Challenge display.

There will also be a quilt raffle held for the chance to win a queen-size quilt. Tickets will be available for the “Tequila Buzz” raffle quilt – a classic red and white quilt in celebration of the Quilt Show’s 40th Anniversary. Raffle tickets will be sold for $1 each or 6 for $5, and proceeds will benefit the Junior Historian Program at Sauder Village.

Again this year, Certified Quilt Appraiser Donna L Kooistra will be at the Quilt Show to appraise quilts for insurance replacement value, fair market value, and donation value. Appraisal appointments can be scheduled online for Thursday, April 28 and Friday, April 29 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Special workshops are also scheduled during the Quilt Show event – presented by featured teachers Mickey Depre of Oak Lawn, Illinois and Sue Nickels from Ann Arbor, MI. Both teachers are well-known quilt artists, authors and instructors. Workshop details and forms for workshop registration and appraisal appointments are available online at www.saudervillage.org

For those with a passion for quilting that extends beyond the week-long show, Sauder Village offers a wide range of classes in quilting throughout the year. Threads of Tradition Quilt Shop at Sauder Village, open year round, is recognized as one of the most extensive quilting shops in the area with supplies, books and more than 3,500 bolts of fabric.

Throughout the week guests will also have an opportunity to explore Historic Sauder Village to visit with costumed guides in historic homes, farms and gardens, and community shops. Guests can also watch the many craftsmen at work in the Village including the glassblower, potter, cooper, weaver, spinner and many others! A buggy or train ride, stop at the ice-cream parlor, and Lauber’s General Store are also favorite activities for guests of all ages.

The Sauder Village Quilt Show runs Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. A special “Exhibit Only” admission pass is available for the annual Quilt Show for $11.00. The admission price for the Quilt Show and Historic Village is only $16.00 for adults and $10.00 for students ages 6-16 or, a two-day pass is available for $25 for adults. Again this year, children 16 and under are free every Sunday this season!
