Wauseon Board of Education Recognizes Middle School Artist, Conducts Regular Business

During their regularly scheduled meeting held on October 14, the Wauseon Board of Education recognized and commended Gabe Hawkins for his artwork. Hawkins’s artwork was selected by the Wauseon Middle School student body as the winner of the front cover design for this year’s yearbook. After commending Hawkins for his success, the board then moved on to conduct regular business.

With the minutes, bills, financial reports, and investments all being approved as presented, the board then moved to approve the creation of Fund 022-9500, the OHSAA Tournament Fund. Modifications and supplemental modifications to both the FY14 Permanent Appropriations and FY14 Certificate of Resources that relate to the OHSAA Tournament Fund and the Athletic Fund were also approved. A “then and now” certificate in the amount of $2303.00 to Apple, Inc for 7 mini iPads. The “then and now” certificate is a certification by the treasurer that there was a the time of the making of the contract, and at the time of the execution of such certificate, a sufficient sum appropriated for the purpose of the contract and in the treasury or in the process of collection to the credit of an appropriate fund free from any previous encumbrances. In other financially related matters, the board accepted a donation of a scoreboard from Tiffany and Troy Gype to Wauseon Primary School.

In personnel matters, the board accepted resignations for the purposes of retirement from Ruthann Fry and Jim Reinhart. Fry will be resigning and retiring from her position of WMS/WES Head Custodian effective January 1, 2014. Reinhart will be resigning and retiring from his position of WHS Sweeper effective December 31, 2013. The resignation of Jay Magee, Aquatics Director, effective October 11, 2013 was also approved. Judy Eyer was approved as a Substitute Cook for the 2013-14 school year.

A one year outside athletic supplemental contract was approved to be offered to Robin Darnell as the WHS Assistant Swim Coach. One year certified athletic supplemental contracts were approved for offer to Mike Colon and Rena Schroeder, both as Junior High Track Coach. Also approved as volunteer assistant coaches for the 2013-14 school year were Troy Gype, Volunteer Junior High Boys Basketball Coach; Kody Moden, Volunteer Assistant Boys; and Girls Bowling Coach, and Amanda Thompson, Volunteer Assistant Swim Coach.


All offers are pending receipt of both clean BCI/FBI background checks and Pupil Activity Permits. Failure to provide these documents to the board will result in the offer being withdrawn.

The meeting closed with the board moving into executive session for the discussion of employment of personnel. No further action was taken.
