The board members at Quadco Rehabilitation Center (QRC) had nothing but words of praise for Bruce Abell, the executive director, as they considered his annual performance appraisal.
Returning from an executive session to review his evaluation, board member Ruth Ann Osborne of Bryan told Mr. Abell, “We think you do a very great job. We appreciate you keeping us in touch with everything that goes on.”
“You have a great staff and I know you keep them in order, also,” she added.
Tom Eggers of Ridgeville Corners said he concurred with the comments.
Jean Lightle-Jackman from Defiance continued, “Bruce, we feel that you’re doing the best possible job, and I like the way that you always keep us informed. I like the way that you plan ahead, too. I like the fact that you always let us know what could be happening.”
Mr. Abell thanked the board members for their comments and their support for QRC.
“I appreciate your commitment to the organization and your willingness to come each month and help us struggle with these issues,” he told the board members.
Following the remarks, board president Barb Heer of Stryker said it was the board’s wishes to renew his contract for another year.
The regular monthly meeting of the board was held on Friday (Jan. 31), having been rescheduled from Tuesday due to the winter weather.
Mr. Abell spoke to the board members about how QRC continues to support efforts to provide programs of community integration and inclusion, and will do so in the future.
The board members approved an armed intruder policy. Mr. Abell said the policy is based on the A.L.I.C.E. program, one endorsed by local law enforcement officers.
Several of the board members said they thought highly of the program after attending an A.L.I.C.E. training held at QRC’s November Inservice.
The board members reviewed the attendance of the members through the year. The members noted that attendance was good, and when meetings are missed, they are excused absences.
They noted that Tootie Bockelman of Napoleon has reached the end of her second three-year term as a board member and wondered if she would be willing to continue for another term.
“It would be an honor for me to continue on for the next three years,” she answered in reply.
The officers of the Administrative Board will remain the same in 2014.
Prior to the regular meeting, the board members held their annual organizational meeting.
The board members re-elected Barb Heer as president, Jean Lightle-Jackman as vice president and Gary Burr as secretary.
During the reorganization, the board members affirmed the EEO and affirmative action policy and letter, reviewed the mission statement and accessibility plan, and approved the board by-laws with no changes.
The board members decided to continue to meet on the fourth Tuesday of the month at noon in the Stryker conference room.
