PIONEER:  May 16-The Edon Bombers traveled to Pioneer for a Sectional Showdown with the North Central Eagles on May 16, prevailing in a 9 inning war 3-0 over the host Eagles to advance to District play.

In a pitching duel on the afternoon, River Wicker and Branden Turner faced off, each tossing perfect regular inning baseball with the 7th inning concluding and each team knotted at 0.

The game was decided in the top of the 9th inning for the Bombers in what would prove to be the difference in the game.In the top of the ninth, Edon’s Brock Thiel got on board with a single. A walk, a wild pitch and an intentional pass later, Wyatt Zulch plated Thiel with a sacrifice fly to the alley in deep right field. That run, being celebrated heartily by Thiel, proved to be the game winner as the Bombers bounced the Eagles from the tournament by a 3-0 score in a game that showcased some of the finest play from both teams all season.

At the plate for the Bombers  in the victory,  Kaden Sapp connected for a double with an RBI while Wyatt Zulch and Colton Lyman were each credited with an RBI in the victory.  Conner Hug, Landon Bloir and Brock Thiel each hit for singles in the Edon victory.

For North Central, Turner took the loss allowing 2 earned runs on what was otherwise a perfect outing for the Eagle pitcher.  Turner gave up 4 hits on the game and allowed just 4 batters on base by walk.

Offensively for the Eagles, it was very tough going against Edon’s Wicker, connecting for just 4 hits on the afternoon.  Dylan Hutchison powered out a double while Turner, Clayton Ferguson and Colton Pilmore each connected for singles in the North Central loss.

The Eagles conclude a very nice 2014 campaign with a 8-2 conference mark with a Co-BBC Title, while posting a 15-7 record on the season.

Edon will advance to opening round of District D-IV play on May 21 in Bryan, facing off with the Ayersville Pilots.
