Fayette School Board Elects Terry Kovar As President For 2021

The Organizational Meeting of the Fayette Local School District was held on January 11, 2021 at 6:45 p.m. at Fayette Local School.

President Pro Tempore Mr. Jason Kessler called the meeting to order with the following members present: Mr. Kirk Keiser, Mr. Mat Johnson, Mr. Ryan Eberly and Mr. Terry Kovar. Also present were Angie Belcher, Superintendent; Kelly Bentley, Treasurer, Jon Molter High School Principal, Allie Reucher Elementary Principal, and Becky Short, Technology Coordinator.

Terry Kovar was named President for 2021 and Jason Kessler as VP. The board approved:

•The meeting Schedule for the year

•The Board Service fund in the amount of $2500

•Authorization of treasurer to borrow money if needed, pay all bills, provided funds are available and report bills paid monthly to the Board; invest inactive funds, request advances on local taxes, as they are available, set workbook prices and attend local state meetings as necessary.

•Authorization of the superintendent to employ such temporary personnel as is needed for emergency situations (such employment is to be presented for approval by the Board at the next regular meeting), Serve as the purchasing agent for the school district, approve meeting attendance, travel requests, and reimbursements as deemed appropriate, serve as sexual harassment grievance officer, make appropriate changes to the district’s Crisis Plan as needed and attend local and state meetings as necessary.

•2021 Board of Education committee appointments

•Retention of Legal firm as Ennis Britton for Negotiation and general representation

•Amenities for participants at meetings and/or other occasions

The Board went straight into the Regular Board Meeting, beginning by recognizing the members for School Board Member Appreciation Month.

In reports and updates, the Board learned, Superintendent Belcher is gathering names of faculty and staff members who are interested in receiving the vaccine for COVID. Educators will be included in the next distribution of the vaccine. Dr. Belcher is working with the Fulton County Health Department on the deployment of the vaccinations for staff members.

The district has again received a safety training grant for $2,500. Dr. Belcher is working with our SRO McConnell on possible implementation. The majority of the programs under this grant focus on student behavior and mental as well as general school safety measures.

Treasurer Kelly Bentley reported on the new Archery Grant, Leo Wixom applied for the Archery Grant through Ohio Division of Wildlife. The district was awarded $2,492.75 to purchase archery equipment to enhance the program. Maximum grant is $2,500 with a matching component of 25%. Requested amount was $3,323, district share is $830.25.

Mr. Wixom notified the school that the Fayette Athletic Boosters has agreed to pick up the 25% component. Thanks was expressed to the Athletic Boosters.

The Board voted to approve:

•Financial report for December 2020

•Authorization of October 2020 Five Year Forecast along with the district’s debt schedule to be filed with the FC Auditor in replacement of the tax budget as they requested

•Staffing: monthly updated sub and para list; FMLA for Sarah Wieland for January 19-29, 2021; Aid leave of absence for Amy Herman tentatively beginning January 26, 2021 on an intermittent leave up to 30 days

•Annual membership with Ohio School Boards Association for January – December 2021 for $5,244.00 (membership cost based on district’s adm FY19).

The meeting adjourned at 7:06. The next board meeting is scheduled for February 15 at 6:30 p.m.
