Joseph Mazalin, 97, of Bryan, Ohio passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio. Joseph was born on January 4, 1924 in Mereville, Pennsylvania, son of the late Joseph and Sophie (Kish) Mazalin.
He married Bernice Mokole on October 28, 1949 in Akron, Ohio and she preceded him in death on August 18, 2018. Joseph graduated from South High School in Akron and attended Kent State University.
He served in the U.S. Navy, WWII, Landing Craft USS Peleliu, LHA-5 (Manis Island-Pacific). He started his career as a Mechanical Engineer at General Tire, and Chase Brass. He was known as the “favorite” Uncle Joe due to his great sense of humor.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Bryan Senior Center, and lifetime member of the YMCA. He favorite pastimes were golfing, fishing, and woodworking.
Surviving are his four children, Joe Mazalin of Amboy, Minnesota, Paula (Charles) Ray of Valparasio, Indiana, Steve Mazalin of Placerville, California and Rebecca Mazalin of Lake Tahoe, California; four Grandchildren, Chris (Gretchen) Ray, Nick (Trisha) Ray, Matt (Jacquelin Fuller) Ray and Justin Mazalin; two Great-Grandchildren, Madisyn and Phoenix.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Ladich, Helen Perbanic, and Lillian Mazalin.
To honor Joseph’s wishes, the family will hold private services. Interment will take place in Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan.
