Fulton County Health Center To Hold Healthcare Camp

March 28, 2021Updated:July 19, 2021No Comments2 Mins Read

Fulton County Health Center (FCHC) started Healthcare Care Camp in June of 2015, as a way to share the facility with high school students, especially those curious about a healthcare career! They have hosted 27 groups of students to date; 137 students, representing 15 schools or colleges.

Students learn about vocational planning for a healthcare career; including concepts such as basic clinical skills, confidentiality, infection control, customer service, empathy and the “patient experience”, insurance 101, practice wheelchair use and get a thorough tour of the hospital. The guides talk candidly and answer questions.

The camp is also the gateway to ongoing job shadowing and volunteerism opportunities at FCHC. Attendees are then able to apply to be “Volunteens” (if they wish) and doors are opening for them. This will include even more vocational healthcare experiences.

Many FCHC staff members have offered to be “coaches” to the teens and invited them to various job shadowing opportunities. These Volunteens will be able to spend time in the ER, OB, CCU, Med Surg, psychiatric unit, the lab, radiology, and in office settings. FCHC is very excited to have them at the hospital.

The next FCHC Health care camps are scheduled for June 24, 2021 and July 21, 2021, from 1-4:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend, but the camp is limited to the first 10 students who register.

Interested students should contact Mary Gautz, Volunteer Coordinator at mgautz@fulhealth.org or 419-330-2695 for more information about the June and July camps. Students are encouraged to make the call to get an application.
