A Nostalgic Musical Journey Back To The 1950’s Proudly Presented By NCHS Drama Club

April 23, 2022No Comments3 Mins Read

Be sure to mark your calendars to join us as the North Central High School Drama Club of 2021-2022 is proud to be bringing musicals back to our stage after the unexpected two year COVID break.

We are so excited to take our audience on a musical comedy tribute to the 1950’s through the production of the musical The Nifty Fifties on April 29 (8:00 p.m.), April 30 (8:00 p.m.) and May 1 (4:30 p.m.).

Tickets will be available for purchase at the door and doors will open 30 minutes before the show. To celebrate those who attended high school at that time, all 1950 graduates will receive free admittance!

The story centers on Gracie Stanley. She has gotten herself in hot water by promising to deliver her distant cousin, rock star Ziggy Springer, for the high school “Sock Hop” at the teens’ soda shop hang out since the school cannot hold the dance.

The problem is Ziggy’s manager doesn’t want this client performing anywhere without pay, so Gracie and her two best friends have to produce a double — and fast!

It will not be easy for Gracie to get away with this one since her rival, snooty Muffin Mansfield with her best friends, are just waiting for it all to be a flop.

Plus, Gracie does not want to look like a failure to the basketball team and their star player, George Bullock, the love of her teenage life and whom Muffin is also chasing after.

Meanwhile Louise, the proprietor of the shop, has her own problems. The building’s owner forbids the dance and plans to turn the eatery into a dry cleaner.

However, her waitresses come up with a plot they hope will help Gracie succeed with her plans. With all of this happening, Gracie’s brother Bob is now living in terror because he’s smashed up a Harley belonging to Sinbad, a notorious, mean and very rebellious woman in town, all while the impulsive student Jughead keeps everyone laughing!

High school student cast members looking forward to bringing this comedy to life are as follows: Briana Baker (Muffin’s friend Jane), Estrella Cruz (Muffin), Mireya Cruz (officer), Sami Cummins (Hippie Misty), Clayton Douglass (Bob), MaKenna Hollstein (Beverly), Baylee Joice (waitress Edna), Erica Knapp (Gracie), Ava Livengood (Rebel Roxy), Tesa Lopez (Sinbad), Kinsley Martin (Gracie’s friend Rose Marie), Paige Oxender (Muffin’s friend Ann), Ashton Salazar (Ziggy), Kaitlyn Stembridge (Louise), Camden Stoots (Donald, the soda jerk), Stephen Traxler (Jughead), Ava VanAuken (Gracie’s friend Evelyn), Sami Cummins (owner Mrs. Nicholson), Amara Wright (waitress Virginia), Madeline Zimmerman (officer), along with their 1950’s winning basketball team played by Joey Burt (star player), Ethan Beard, Clayton Douglass, Wyatt Gruber, Johnny Hicks and Gage Kidston.

The industrious high school crew working hard to make everyone shine and for all to run smoothly are as follows: Darbi Stewart (Student Director), Johnny Hicks (Stage Manager), Cohen Meyers (Sound Board Technician, Quin Burt (Light Board Technician), Emma Taylor (Production Team), Cam Laney (Lights) and Alizabeth Pilmore (Production Team), along with stage crew of Kade Stewart, Talen Reinbolt, Tyler Meyers, Cailyn Meyers, Aiden Meyers and Alli Meyers.

The pit band consists of assistant director Sharon Deetz (Keyboard), David Deetz (Guitar), Joy Gruetter (Synth), Paul Gruetter (Bass) and Bradley Russell (Drums). Director is Deb Meyers.

We look forward to seeing you at our musical tribute, ready for some toetapping music and lots of laughs with a few recalled memories tucked in for those who experienced high school in that era!
