(February 12th, 2015) – WAUSEON: In North Western Ohio Athletic Conference junior varsity action, the Lady Indians of Wauseon were challenged on their home court by the Vikings of Evergreen.

Despite playing from behind for almost the entire first half, Wauseon was able to secure a 28-24 victory against the Lady Vikings.

Evergreen got off to a solid start, commanding an 11-7 lead by the first quarter’s conclusion. They were able to expand upon that lead in the follow up period, claiming a 9-7 advantage for the quarter. Now up 20-14 at the half, the Indian girls had some work to do in order to climb back into the contest.

They had no trouble putting that work in during the second half. Less than halfway into the third stanza, Wauseon had tied the game at 20 points apiece. Roughly a minute and a half after catching up the girls of Evergreen, the Indians moved past them, taking the lead by a 25-20 margin. The battle wasn’t over, however, as the Vikings came back themselves, trailing by just 2 points going into the fourth quarter, 26-24.

Defense dominated the final period. With only a minute left in the contest, only a single point had been scored, with Wauseon claiming it for themselves. They would make another free throw, after being fouled by Evergreen. This gave the hometown girls a 4 point victory.

Halen Mealer had as strong showing for the Lady Indians, putting up 7 points in the defensive struggle. Rylee Campbell added another 6 points, while DesaRae Hadley scored 4 points as well.
