Excitement spread throughout Edon Northwest Local Schools as administrators, teachers and students learned Edon Elementary had been named a 2014 School of Promise by the Ohio Department of Education. One of ninety-eight elite schools in the State awarded the honor; recognition was based on the 2013-2014 Report Card.
“Education is making a difference, and these teachers, students, leaders and communities are making a difference for the boys and girls in their local schools,” said Dr. Richard A. Ross, superintendent of public instruction. “I’m especially proud of what these schools have achieved during a year when we raised learning standards for students and launched higher accountability measures for schools.”
For the past thirteen years, ODE’s School of Promise program has recognized schools for maintaining high academic achievement among their students, including many from economically disadvantaged circumstances that can make learning difficult.
Edon Elementary School received School of Promise recognition for 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 Report Cards as well.
