The North Central Board of Education expressed an interest in splitting the bill with other districts on certain personnel during their March regular meeting.
Already sharing the cost of some programs with neighboring districts, such as the Multi-Handicapped Program with Edon, the school would like to continue with such practices in light of another potential budget cut from the State government.
“All of the superintendents in Williams County are taking a look at that.” Stated North Central Superintendent Ken Boyer on the issue.
The type of personnel North Central would like to share are the important, yet more expensive positions needed at the school. School Psychologist was the job specifically named in the discussions, though other positions will be explored as well.
An update on the status of the high school building project was delivered to the board by Boyer as well. There wasn’t much to report at the time, as a meeting scheduled for Monday, March 23 was set to iron out the details of the project.
“It’s been pretty quiet.” Boyer said. “We should have a better understanding of things after the meeting.”
He did caution that, while a lot of what they wanted should make it into the final design, board members should temper their expectations a bit.
“If you were looking at a Cadillac,” Began Boyer with his car analogy, “you may have to settle for a Buick or a Chevy.”
One thing Boyer was able to report, however, was how pleased the engineers of Garmann Miller were in their dealings with Pioneer village officials.
“The village has been absolutely wonderful to work with.” He quoted one Garmann Miller worker.
While keeping the board up to date on projects, Boyer also mentioned the progression with the building of the new dug out next to the baseball diamond.
“We have a nice muddy mess out there.” Admitted Boyer.
While the project is moving along, there is one decision that has yet to be made. It is still not known whether the flooring for the dug out will be comprised of concrete or asphalt. While concrete would be ideal, asphalt would provided a more cost-efficient option for the district. The project anticipates completion within the next week or so, hopefully before the beginning of the new baseball season.
Connie Myers will not be coming back to North Central next school year. The Junior High Science Instructor saw her retirement approved by the board. Her last day will be June 1 of this year.
A contract with the North West Ohio Education Technology Foundation was approved by the board as well. The agreement will last throughout the 2015-16 academic year, and will cost the district $985.05. That amounts to $1.65 per student enrolled at the school.
The board concluded the meeting by entering into Executive Session in order to discuss discipline of personnel. No action was expected.
