The Alvordton – Millcreek Fire Department is looking for more individuals who would like to volunteer their time and fill their ranks.
Chief Tony Carpenter explained that the department is currently looking for new members.
“We are short on manpower and are hoping to see our numbers improve in the future with our firefighters and first responders.”
“We are always looking for hardworking individuals to be part of our department whether it’s a first responder and/or firefighter. Contact any of our firefighters if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.”
This manpower shortage is taking place even though calls for service have continued to increase. “Our numbers are up considerably this year. We have responded to more structure fires this year than in years past.”
“A majority of our runs this year have been responding to mutual aid calls with other departments,” said Chief Carpenter.
In addition to helping out other departments, the Alvordton-Millcreek Fire Department has also been out training with other departments they work with through mutual aid agreements.
“We have been training more with other departments that we mutual aid with, so we can work on interoperability and be more efficient at our jobs.”
“We are very fortunate to have good working relationships with our mutual aid departments and the training helps maintain those relationships.”
Chief Carpenter also explained that they have a great crew working at their station. “We are lucky to have a great crew of hardworking individuals who drop what they are doing whenever the pager goes off. The comradery and relationships formed are just as much family as our own.”
