Late North Central Run Falls Short Against Edon

April 20, 2015Updated:December 31, 2020No Comments3 Mins Read

(April 16th, 2015) – Struggling early in the contest, North Central attempted to mount a comeback in the final two innings against the Lady Bombers.

Their efforts would fall well short however, as Edon would prevail over the visiting Eagles 7-3.

The Bombers scored early and often in the game. Holding North Central without a run until the sixth inning, Edon brought home 2 runs in the bottom of the first. They added another score in the second, and 2 more in the fourth. With a commanding 5-0 lead heading into the sixth inning, Edon looked as though they were going to simply continue pulling away.

North Central wouldn’t let them, however, narrowing the gap quickly with a 2 run effort in the top of the sixth. The Bomber girls matched that total in the bottom of the inning, keeping their advantage at 5 runs.

Attempting to continue the game to the bottom of the seventh inning, the Lady Eagles tried desperately to put more runs on the board. They couldn’t make up the 5 run difference, however, tacking on just 1 more run before the end of the contest.

Shaylee Manahan had a great game against the Eagles pitching. The sophomore went 3 for 4 on the game, hitting for a single, double, and home run, which put her just an elusive triple shy of hitting for the cycle. She also drove in 4 RBIs. Senior Bomber Alex Kiess connected with the ball on 3 of her 4 plate appearances as well, earning 2 singles and a double. Classmate Nicole Newell went 2 for 3, driving in 2 RBIs off of a pair of singles.

Senior Lady Eagle Sabrina Pickford earned the lone hit for her team. She earned a single when she made contact with the ball. Pickford also earned an RBI off of the hit.

From the mound, Edon senior Kaitlin Chrisman kept the North Central hitters in line. Pitching a complete seven innings, Chrisman gave up no earned runs on just 1 hit. She also struck out 7 batters, walking 2 more.

For North Central, Reese Cogswell was the starting pitcher. The senior girl threw for five innings, striking out 3 batters and walking none. She allowed 4 earned runs from 9 hits. Relieving her for the final inning of play was Makayla Hayes. In that inning, the sophomore gave up 1 run off of 1 hit, striking out an Edon girl.
