The Fulton County Soil and Water recently sponsored the Fulton County Soil Judging Contest. The water technicians prepared pits and conducted the contest.

The Soil CDE is one of the first CDE’s of the school year. CDE’s (Career Development Events) are an extension of the local agricultural education classroom and serve as an authentic application of the curriculum in which students are instructed.

Through agricultural education and the FFA, amazing opportunities exist for FFA members. With over 300 careers in agriculture, food, fiber, and natural resources, FFA members can look forward to unlimited success.

They are future chemists, business owners, politicians, community leaders, veterinarians, farmers, and teachers. The skills obtained through FFA will serve a student for life.

In the Urban contest students evaluate the land on slope, flood hazard, soil stability, water table and bedrock depth.

Both contests include a written exam. In the Urban Contest Wauseon placed first, Delta was second, Evergreen was third and Fayette was fourth.

High individual was Aiden Goings from Wauseon. Second place went to Logan Williams, Wauseon, third place to Lilly Ebery, Fayette, fourth place to Nichole Stein, Wauseon and fifth place to Carter Lavinder, Fayette.

In the Rural or Agricultural Contest students evaluate the land on slope, erosion, texture, natural drainage, land classification and recommended conservation practices.

In the Rural Contest Fayette placed first, Archbold was second, Wauseon was third, Delta was fourth, Pettisville was fifth and Evergreen was sixth. High individual was Leslie Burrow, Fayette, second was Jarrett Rufenacht, Archbold, third was Gage Nafziger, Archbold, fourth was Hawk Brehm, Fayette, and fifth was Richard Noonan, Wauseon.

All FFA members have the opportunity to move on to district competition coming soon.
