Williams County Chooses Yosick, Towns And Grimm For County Offices

With a 69.95% voter turnout, Williams County filled positions at the county-wide level. Three races – County Prosecutor, County Sheriff and County Treasurer – were contested.
Running for Williams County Prosecutor, Kirk Yosick defeated Lora Manon to win the position. Yosick took just under 65% of the popular vote while Manon received just over 35%. More closely contested was the race for Williams County Sheriff between Steve Towns and Dan Hughes. Towns won, receiving 59.34% of the popular vote to Hughes’ 40.66%. The only other contested race, that of Williams County Treasurer, was won by Vickie Grimm who defeated challenger Cathy Schuller by a narrow 52% to 48% margin.
On the national front, Williams County came down on the side of Mitt Romney in the presidential race. Statewide, Romney came in second to national winner, President Barack Obama. In the vote for U.S. Senate, Williams County went with Josh Mandel by a 55% to 39% margin over statewide winner Sherrod Brown. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio’s 5th District was Congressman Bob Latta who took 62% of the popular vote.
West Unity renewed a 5 mill operating levy for current expenses. Brady Township renewed a levy for cemetery maintenance. Northwest, Superior and Madison Townships all passed renewal levies for their fire services.
County-wide a renewal levy was passed for senior services by a 71% For to 29% Against margin. The only levy failure went to the Williams Soil & Water Conservation District whose .45 Mill levy went down to defeat by a slim 47.5% to 52.5% margin.
