The Wauseon High School Choirs and Bands entertained an audience of parents and friends at the Spring Arts Concert May 7.

Under the direction of Angelica Dunsavage the WHS Chorale kicked the evening off performing the numbers “All the Things You Are” and “I Just Haven’t Met You Yet.” Next the WHS Concert Choir took the stage singing an assortment of music genre from rock to country including, “Green Day on Stage,” “God Bless the Broken Road” and “Don’t Stop Believing.”

The newest Wauseon choir, the WHS Women’s Acapella Choir entertain audiences with their rendition of “Bella’s Finals from Pitch Perfect.” To end the evening’s choir performances the WHS Acapella Choir performed the “Frozen Choral Suite.” Next a series of student conductors took over the programs with Senior Anthony Howard conducting “The Seal Lullaby” and Senior Elijah Becker conducting “Lux Aurumque.” Senior Cole Stiriz arranged and conducted the final piece “Honeybee” with student accompanist Senior Sally Frank. Dunsavage recognized the seniors at the end of the program and presented Anthony Howard with the choir award.

In the second half of the evening the WHS bands took the stage. Bowling Green State University student teachers Marissa Wilt and Kara Kordella assisted band director Eric Boswell and assistant band director Jason Lozer in directing the evening’s performances.

The Wind Ensemble Woodwind Choir started with “Revolution Songs” followed by the WHS Symphonic Band with “Rustic Overture,” “Overture for Tomorrow” and “Prairie Songs.” Next up the Wind Ensemble Brass Choir performed “Ave Maria.”

Changing up the pace, the WHS Jazz Band took the stage and entertained with “Lite Blooz,” “Yesterday” and “Groovin Hand.” The WHS Wind Ensemble completed the evening performing “La Peri,” “Concerto for Trombone” featuring Senior Trombonist Bailey Hardy and “Apollo: Myth and Legend.” Students surprised Boswell, who announced earlier in the year that he is leaving the WHS at the end of the school year to take a position at Maumee High School, by performing their 2010 piece “Sing a Song.”

Boswell and Lozer recognized the senior band members. They also presented Senior Bailey Hardy with the John Phillip Sousa Award, Seniors Brooke Hardy and Ashlyn Boyers with the Patrick Gilmore Award and Senior David Williams with the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. Finally they were joined by BGSU trombone professor Dr. Bill Mathis and trumpet professor Charles Saenz for their last piece, “Cousins.”
