The Edon Northwest Local School District Board of Education met for the organizational meeting of 2024 on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 5 p.m., with members Cody Best, Ashley Reed, David Wehrle, Patty Eicher, and Jamie Schaffter alongside Superintendent Anthony Stevens and Clerk / Treasurer Deb Nester.

It was their first decision of 2024 to appoint member Cody Best as president of the board, with Jamie Schaffter serving as vice president.

The 2024 meeting dates were then approved, with the board agreeing to meet on the second Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. with the following exceptions: June 24; July 15; September 16.

Months that are not on the second Monday of the month are still planned for 5:30 p.m., but the board can agree to change the dates given that they provide proper notice to the public.

Annual purchasing agents were approved for the year, and committee assignments were approved, as was the compensation for board members, which will be $8 per regular and special meeting and annual sports pass.

At 5:30 p.m., the board entered into the first regular session of the year, where each board member was given a certificate of appreciation in honor of School Board Recognition Month before the minutes from their December 11, 2023 meeting were approved, as were the financial reports for December 2023.

Appropriations and donations were then approved as presented, with donations from the following accepted: Box Tops; Williams. Co. Beef Producers, Montpelier Eagles, and the Edon Athletic Boosters.

Mrs. Nester then presented the financial report for this year, comparing December 2023 figures to December 2022. Revenues are up over the last fiscal year by $300,006, and expenses are up by $205,439.

The State Auditors are almost done with fiscal 2023’s audit, with the new valuations at $89,759,190, and estimated revenue at $1,870,505 for tax year 2023. Tax Year 2023 valuation is up from tax year 2022 by $1,235,050.

Mrs. Lapham then shared scheduling and testing information, and Mr. Stevens shared that there has been a draft version of an agreement for public use of the golf simulator created for public use, and that the vestibule project has been advertised.

The first reading of a resolution pertaining to a new school district tax rate and district income tax renewal, and the annual supplemental contracts were approved as presented.

The board then voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:23 p.m., set to meet next February 12, 2024, at 5:30 p.m.
