The Council of Edon Village met for their 2024 organizational meeting shortly after conducting interviews for open council positions on January 15, 2024.
Council nominated Jeff Pease and Brian Schaffer to join David Loghborough, Austin Thiel, Lee Lawrence, and Dan Ankney on the 2024 Edon Village Council.
Mayor Duane Thiel, Fiscal Officer Heidi Bidwell, and Village Administrator Chad Ordway were present alongside council for the first meeting of 2024, which started shortly after the approval of council meeting next February to be on Tuesday, the 20th, as the offices will be closed Monday for Presidents’ Day.
Besides that, council is set to meet the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. Council also approved the committee list for 2024.
Lee Lawrence greeted the first council meeting of 2024 serving as council president, and the mayor swore councilors Jeff Pease and Brian Schaffer in with their oath of office and did the same for 2024 Zoning Committee member David Bell and new Edon Fire Department Chief Allyn Luce.
The minutes of the last council meeting were approved as presented, as were the most current financial report and bills list.
Police Chief Tom Szymczak had nothing to report this meeting, and Fiscal Officer Heidi Bidwell shared that the village offices will be closed Presidents’ Day (Feb. 19, 2024), and it was shared that committee meetings needed to be organized.
Councilor Loghborough then shared that there has been a resignation rescinded for lawn maintenance, and Administrator Ordway shared that seeding will take place as soon as weather allows.
Resolution 01-2024 was then passed after its first reading and a suspension of the three-reading rule, as a declaration of emergency was deemed necessary for this resolution.
This resolution allows for an update to the Downtown Revitalization Grant application for this year, and the application is due at the end of January.
Council then voted to enter executive session to discuss property acquisition, set to meet next February 20, 2024, at 7 p.m.
