The Bryan Board of Education will be looking to fill the seat of Scott Benedict, who will no longer be a member of the board come February 29th.

The reason for this vacancy is that the Benedicts sold their Bryan residence, and have since relocated out of the Bryan school district.

It is a legal requirement that board members live in the district that they serve. Benedict will continue to volunteer with the school district, just as he has for the last 25 years.

While Benedict has “thoroughly enjoyed being on the board of education,” they got an offer too good to refuse on their home, which is a turn of “good fortune” for the Benedict family.

Benedict has spent six years on the Bryan Board of Education, two of which were served as president to the board.

He thanked the “the Board, Mark, Kevin, and all of the administration and staff that work for BCS” as they have helped to foster a positive environment.

While on the board, Benedict helped to pass a levy that has benefited the district’s financial situation, negotiated two BEA and OAPSE contracts, reached an agreement with CHWC to purchase the old high school property, implemented policies that allowed for school resource officers, worked with the city to start the inclusive playground project at the old Lincoln School grounds, and many other things that he thanked the board “from the bottom of (his) heart for allowing (him) to be a part of all of this.”
