(June 1st, 2015) – WEST UNITY: It was only in the last two innings that Hilltop was able to pull away. Spending a majority of the contest trailing their guests from Edon, though technically the home team due to poor field conditions on the Bombers’ field, they were able to pull out a stunning victory in the first of two games to be played between the two teams that evening.

Hilltop pulled away from the Bombers for the 8-4 win.

The Cadets struck first, scoring a run in the top of the first. The Bomber boys matched that score in the bottom of the inning. Edon then pulled ahead with a 2 run effort in the bottom of the second. The third, fourth, and fifth innings saw no runs scored, allowing the Bombers to maintain their 2 run advantage.

Then, in the top of the sixth, Hilltop unleashed a flurry of offense, driving in 4 runs. They tacked on 3 more in the top of the seventh, commanding an 8-3 lead going into the bottom of the decisive inning. Edon was able to add another run to their total, but could not make up the difference, giving the Cadets an impressive, dramatic win to open ACME play.

Claiming the win for the Cadets was Kohl Collins. Lasting all seven innings, he gave up 3 earned runs from 6 hits. His control was quite impressive, as he was able to amass 8 strikeouts while allowing just 2 walks.

Carson Brandt gave Edon five strong innings at the mound. In that span, he earned 7 strikeouts, while giving up 2 walks. He also did not allow an earned run, limiting Hilltop to 2 hits. Braden Bauer stepped in to replace Brandt, giving up 3 earned runs from 2 hits.

Quinn Smith played a vital role offensively for the West Unity boys. Going 2 for 4 from the plate, he hit a pair of singles for 2 RBIs. Nic Schieber also drove in a couple runs with a 2 RBI double.

Braden Miller gave the Bombers a boost with his bat, thanks to a 2 for 3 performance that saw him hit for a single and a double. That earned him an RBI as well. Brandt also had an RBI in the contest, hitting for a single to drive in the run.
