COUNCIL … Members of the Fayette Village Council discuss items listed on the evening’s agenda.

The Fayette Village Council held their meeting on Wednesday, February 28th. The meeting began at 6:00 p.m. with a prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Council first moved to approve the current agenda and minutes from the following meetings. The council meeting held on February 14th, the finance committee meeting held on February 21st, and public works committee meeting held on February 21st.
The mayor’s report followed next with some of the following topics being discussed. The garden club is still selling its 150th cookbook for $15. The books are available for purchase at the library or the history center.
The Legion Auxiliary will be holding their Baked Potato Dinner on March 10th. The next Fayette CDC meeting will take place on March 11th at 6:00 p.m. at The Stable, the Fayette Schools Winter Sports Awards will be held on March 12th at 7:00 p.m., recycling will take place on March 24th and the Third Annual Thistle race is coming up.
Discussion also took place about the upcoming eclipse, military banners, and applications being accepted by the village for a part-time public works employee.
The village administrators report came next, with the following items being discussed. Phase 1 is continuing with Bryan Excavating making their way onto North Gorham Street while putting in service lines as they go.
Regarding the stoplight in town, the company doing the work has received the replacement parts and will be adding Fayette back onto their schedule within the next few weeks.
More service line breaks have also occurred, with village crews being out for over 12 hours at some times to get water restored.
The VFO’s report followed next, with it being stated there were not many changes made to the bill list.
Discussion also took place for the following items, including a change in insurance being made for a village police officer, a grant for locating equipment, and whether or not to advertise on Indeed for the upcoming open VFO position.
It was decided that Indeed.com would be a viable option, and to add a date of April 5th for applications to be turned in by. Lastly, the annual report was completed and filed with the state.
A motion was then made to pay the bills in the amount of $79,827.31, which was approved, before also moving to approve the following items.
The first reading of Ordinance 2024-03 increasing estimated revenues. The second reading of Ordinance 2024-02 to make appropriations for current expenses and other expenditures of the Village of Fayette during fiscal year ending December 31st, 2024.
The third reading of Resolution 2024-01 expressing the intent of council to conduct an internet auction for the sale of unneeded, obsolete, or unfit personal property owned by the village.
A motion to transfer 110.8 hours of Jordan Wehrly’s sick leave from Oak Harbor PD to Fayette. The next motion, to hire James Waltimire as a part-time police officer at $22.00/hr., was then tabled following an executive session asked for by council member Katie Colegrove.
The executive session began at 6:28 p.m. and concluded at 6:41 p.m. The meeting was then adjourned at 6:44 p.m.
