The Iron Horse River Trail which runs through Montpelier continues in their construction efforts. While the entire project began four years ago, it wasn’t until about a year ago that construction efforts began.

According to Village Manager of Montpelier, Jason Rockey, at this time the construction of the asphalt pathway will only be paved on the current proposed river trail in which is a one-mile path that cuts across the existing Iron Horse River Trail.

The entire project cost sits at an estimated cost of 1.2 million dollars. Of that amount the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) funded $850,000 through a grant that was provided for the river trail.

Village Manager Rockey also gave insight to the current work which is being completed near the Montpelier Senior Center Trailhead. There will be two sections of boardwalk which will be begin replaced with helical piers.

The two boardwalks to be replaced will be the north and south boardwalks. Current discussions are in motion on whether to not to bring in a specialized carpentry team to do the constructions of the boardwalks.

Once construction is completed on the Iron Horse River Trail, the paved pathways will be a total of ten feet wide and include two bike lanes, on either side of the path giving ample room for all those who may pass by each other on the path to have more than enough space to do so.

While the anticipation of the project being done continues to grow, the project is expected to be completed sometime in September so that all may enjoy the amazing features of the trail and new more accessible trail.
