Have you ever been to a library and just felt lost in the nonfiction section? All you can see are a bunch of endless numbers, which makes it almost impossible to find a book. Williams County Public Library has listened to the frustrations of patrons over the years, and is excited to finally be able to solve the problem. The library will be introducing Dewey Lite, the latest form of cataloguing which separates books by topic, to every location of WCPL on Monday, August 17.
When asked why the library is changing to the new system, Williams County Public Library Director Jeff Yahraus stated, “In an effort to make it easier for our patrons to find their books, WCPL has switched to a Dewey Lite form of shelving. This shelving uses recognizable subject headings for people that are not accustomed to the Dewey Decimal system of shelving, such as Animals, Antiques, etc. The library will continue to use the Dewey system, but will add this second form of shelving identification to assist patrons.
All branches, including Bryan, Edgerton, Edon, Pioneer, Stryker, and West Unity, closed on Thursday August 13 and Friday, August 14 to implement the new shelving system. Upgrades to the library computer system were also be made on those days. It is the hope that Dewey Lite will help make browsing and finding nonfiction books easier than ever for patrons.
