WILLIAMS COUNTY PORT AUTHORITY: Board Approves Bid For House In Montpelier

BID APPROVAL … Discussion took place about the Andelynn Homes bid to build a house in Montpelier.

The Williams County Port Authority met on Monday, October 28th. The meeting began at 12:00 p.m. with roll call. In the first order of business the board approved the financials and minutes from the previous meeting.

The board also approved option extension for Isaac property and a conflict waiver between OCCH, Squires Patton & Boggs, and Frontier Community.

The board then approved a bid for a new house from Andelynn Homes that will be located at 402 S. Empire Street in Montpelier.

Approving this bid allows the contractors to get started on this house before the weather becomes bad.

Sean Rupp stated, “I think this house will go better in this neighborhood. That neighborhood is older, it fits there. It will probably bring a little more money to that neighborhood.”

The Port Authority has a house in Stryker that should be ready to go on the market in the next week. They also have a house in Montpelier that is currently listed and a house in West Unity that someone has already shown interest in but nothing is set in stone yet.

There has been a price difference concern with the houses, with previous houses that were built being listed between $165,000-$168,000 while the newer models will list at $180,000.

The house does have a nicer look as expressed by several of the board members, however the square footage will remain the same. The house has more of a cottage look to it with a porch and two full baths.

Board member Bill Martin expressed that people cannot find a good quality apartment anymore. People are paying $700-$800 in rent every month but the quality of the apartment they are renting is not great. For the same mortgage monthly payment people can get a good quality home.

With nothing further to discuss, the board entered into executive session at 12:23 p.m. to consider the purchase of property. Upon returning from executive session, the board adjourned.
