(PRESS RELEASE / THE VILLAGE REPORTER)
BOOK DISCUSSION … The Taine Club met at the Meow Art Studio for a recent meeting. Hostesses Carol Nowak and Karen Babb provided autumn treats. President Jackie Boyd began the meeting with the reading of the Collect. Secretary and Treasurer reports were shared. “The Gift of Friendship” is the theme for the year and Vice President Vicki Rathbun led the discussion on the all-read book, One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot by Marianne Cronin. This tells of the friendship of two people in the Terminal Ward at the Glasgow Princess Royal Hospital. Seventeen-year-old Lenni meets eighty-three-year-old Margot in the hospital’s art class. Neither of them have given up on life. When Lenni and Margot discover that between them, they have been alive for one hundred years, they plan to create one hundred paintings illustrating their century of living. As they paint, a world of stories opens up-stories of love and loss, of courage and kindness, of unexpected tenderness and pure joy. The story reminds us how precious life is; the stories we leave behind and the wonder of a friendship that transcends time. The next Taine meeting will be in the community room at the YMCA with Alice Miller in charge. Pictured is Speaker Vicki Rathbun, Hostesses Carol Nowak and Karen Babb.
