Evergreen Schools held a Veterans Day event on Friday, November 8th, starting at 9:00 a.m. Representatives from AMVETS Post 7574 and St. Mary’s Catholic War Veterans Post 306 conducted the posting of the colors.

The 8th-grade band then performed the “Star-Spangled Banner,” followed by the Middle School Student Council representatives leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

The 8th-grade band performed “Freedom Finale.” Following that, the High School Class Officers presented a Veterans Day report, discussing the origins of Veterans Day.

The Young Viking Choir then sang “Build Upon Us,” an original piece composed by Mr. Jonathan Torrence, the Elementary music director.

Next, the guest speaker, U.S. Navy Reserves Lieutenant Commander Brian Geer, addressed the crowd. Greer is an alumnus of Evergreen High School from Metamora.

He shared his experiences and discussed how he graduated from the University of Toledo and later started a family.

He reflected on the significant impact of September 11, 2001. Brian encouraged the students to speak with veterans and ask them to share their stories.

The EHS Chorale performed “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor,” followed by the Young Viking Choir, which sang “Worth the Fight.”

The EHS Chorale then sang the “Armed Forces Salute,” encouraging veterans to stand during the performance of their respective military branch songs to be recognized.

A moment of silence was observed before Trumpeter Lissa Roesti, the Class Officer for the Eleventh Grade, played Taps.

Following this, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Dolores Swineford delivered closing remarks before the colors were retired.
